The LCMS Mission team’s strategy is to start churches, and to begin a new national Lutheran church in Peru. The Mission Team strives to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, gather them into a worship community, raise up new disciples in the teachings of the Bible, identify leaders, and equip them for leadership and commission native Peruvian believers and leaders to partner with missionaries as they are sent out to start more worship communities.
Other missionaries living in Peru include:Rev. Cullen and Deac. Jacqueline Duke
Rev. Joshua and Amanda Gale
Rev. Eddie and Melissa Hosch III
Deaconess Caitlin Worden
Since missionaries arrived a few years ago, God has expanded the mission effort to include initially 3 sites with 2 additional sites to be added in 2016:
· San Borja – is the initial mission site where Spanish services are held every Sunday and Bible Study & English classes occur during the week. The location of the mission house recently moved to a more visible and accessible location
· Los Olivos – is second mission site in northern Lima. Spanish services are held every Sunday by a native Peruvian Vicar along with Pastor Burch. Because of construction, the ministry’s location recently moved with first floor visibility.
· La Victoria – is the location of Castillo Fuerte (A Mighty Fortress) mission work. This is an outreach to a unique district of Lima call La Victoria. La Victoria is densely populated with slums and shantytowns as well as upper-middle-class neighborhoods. The current outreach effort has been to provide services relating to education, health, and life ministries to the neighborhood children. Lunches are being offered to the children at the mercy center during the week. Saturday afternoon services are being offered to the community along with bible studies and catechism classes.
· Two additional 2016 sites:
§ San Juan de Lurigancho – this community resides on the side of a mountain in a northern part of Lima. The people within this community have migrated from the interior of Peru. They are poor but hard working and want to improve the education of their children.
§ Chorrillos – this community is also poor and resides in a southern district of Lima. The Peru Mission Team will be providing a Day Care Center for the women working a Krochet Kids (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmEyhjnNK5o ). The goal is that the relationship with Krochet Kids will allow the Mission Team to provide an outreach to the community with the eventual addition of worship services and bible studies.
§ These two additional mission locations will allow God’s mercy to be shared with a community of families eager to hear the Gospel message. The Peru Mission team is committed to develop these Mercy Centers and to provide Worship Services that will eventually develop into a congregation.
