My prayer is that you will join us in this effort with support and prayer. Read about our four very special mission efforts in 2015.
Being the church right where you live is the theme of iNeighborhood. Members from 21 congregations have received training to be an iNeighborhood congregation. Each pledged to reach 3 new neighborhoods per year. With 3,878 zip codes in the SED, you can see that we have many neighborhoods to reach. Your contribution for the iNeighborhood mission will support the $178,000 needed to fund the following:
• Equipment to video neighborhood stories
• 5 Seed Grants for church plants & outreach
• Digital Media Outreach – establishing websites
• Pilot Neighborhood outreach in new areas
• Training for the next group of congregations
Church Worker Scholarships
Good Shepherd in Herndon, VA hosted a Mission Summit led by LINC DC in partnership with the SED. About 25 people attended from the National Capital Area including Pastor Mekonnen, an LCMS Pastor with Ethiopian background. Since October, he has established a group in northern Virginia and in Silver Spring, MD.
Because of iNeighborhood efforts, 8 students have applied from our district for tuition support for the Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology (EIIT), an LCMS program leading to ordination. Scholarship funds to support students in the program will total $75,000 in 2015. Support is needed for the development of leaders for ministry.
Neighborhood outreach is expanding in Baltimore. In June, the Director of LINC Baltimore met Janet, a Puerto Rican woman with a passion for serving the overlooked and less fortunate. LINC Baltimore and Janet joined in a community effort that included Anglos, Latinos and African Americans from churches and schools to Feed the Hungry once a month in downtown Baltimore. In November, St. John’s, Nazareth and Concordia Preparatory School assisted by providing, preparing and serving a meal that fed 400+ people!
Help fund LINC ministries in the Urban areas of the SED, linking resources with congregations and opening the doors to connect people with Jesus. Funding needed for the LINC projects - $75,000.
Endow Future Ministries
The SED was formed 75 years ago for missionary purposes. More than 32 million people live in the area we call SED – a mission field abundantly blessed with opportunities to share Jesus with those who do not know him. The timeless message of God’s grace will be just as important for people to hear tomorrow as it was in 1939. Your gift to the Mission Endowment Fund will insure the start of new missions and the education of workers for the church well into the future. Our goal is to generate $1.5 million dollars in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the District. Already, $750,000 has been identified to seed this fund.
