Wellness Wednesday – “Three Buckets Of Stress Interventions”

Welcome to another insightful edition of Wellness Wednesday! Today, we delve deeper into the art and practice of stress management, exploring ways to minimize the impact of stress on our health and well-being. To kickstart this journey, let’s organize our approach into three distinct ‘buckets’ or types of stress interventions:

  • Reduce Demand – This ‘bucket’ is filled with personal techniques that can help you lessen the demands you face in your work, ministry, and personal life. Think of it as a toolbox that can help you choose what to delete, delegate, deny (say no to), and defer until later. One of my go-to tools is the Eisenhower Decision Matrix, a method popularized by President Eisenhower’s approach to his daily tasks. Once a week, review your to-do list and ask yourself, “Is this task important or not important?” and “Is this task urgent or not urgent?” Then, take the appropriate action based on the matrix.

  • Improve Efficiency – This bucket includes things that involve your personal self-leadership and self-management so you can show up at your best in your various callings in life. These are things like greater awareness of those things that create stress in your life, your mindset in approaching your daily tasks by employing mindfulness techniques, having a clear philosophy in your life and ministry by daily connecting your personal mission statement, and connecting daily to your values (those things that are important to you in life) to find greater motivation.
  • Recharge Capacity – This bucket contains the personal wellness practices you intentionally engage in daily, weekly, and monthly. These involve caring for yourself physically by eating right and age-appropriate exercising, mentally so you remain cognitively sharp and proactively protect against mental decline, emotionally by surrounding yourself with supportive and caring relationships, and spiritually by nurturing your connection to God through faith in Jesus through corporate worship and daily devotional practices.

Do you need help filling these three buckets with the personal tools and interventions you need to manage stress successfully? If so, don’t hesitate to contact me and schedule a wellness conversation or engage with one of our wellness coaches in our SED Coaching Network. God’s richest blessings, and may God continue to fill your bucket with what you need to manage the stress we so often experience better.
