Body Building: “Framing The Future – Building Up The Body Of Christ With A Vision Frame”

Just like a beautiful painting needs a frame to be displayed and protected, the vision of your church needs a Vision Frame to give it clarity, structure, and staying power.

Without a frame, even the most inspiring masterpiece is vulnerable to damage, distortion, or simply being overlooked. The same goes for the ministry God has entrusted to your congregation. A Vision Frame, developed by Auxano, isn’t about putting limits on creativity – it’s about focusing your church’s unique calling so that every ministry, every leader, and every program is aligned and empowered to live it out.

So, what is a Vision Frame? It’s a dynamic framework made up of four essential components that define the DNA of your church. These four sides create the frame that holds and protects the picture your Vision Proper, the vivid image of the future God is calling your church to pursue.

Mission – What Are We Doing?

Your Mission is the church’s true north. It’s the heartbeat that never changes, the reason your church exists in the first place. It’s not a slogan or a trendy tagline – it’s your Mission Mandate. The mission is like a golden thread that weaves through every sermon, service project, and small group. A clear mission unifies your people and directs their energy toward what matters most: living and sharing the Gospel.

Values – Why Are We Doing It?

These are your Missional Motives. Your Values answer the “why” behind your mission. They are the deep convictions that shape the way your church moves and ministers. Values act like pillars, propping up decisions and shaping culture. They reflect your church’s spiritual DNA—what matters most and how you live that out in real time. When values are shared, they ignite passion and create unity.

Outcomes – When Are We Successful?

Here’s where vision gets practical. Outcomes, or your Missional Marks, describe the kind of disciple your church is committed to forming. Spiritual growth isn’t just a hope – it’s a measurable journey. What kind of fruit is being produced through your ministry? What do maturity and mission look like in the life of a believer in your context? These marks help everyone know what success looks like in Kingdom terms.

Strategy – How Are We Doing It?

This is your Missional Map—the roadmap connecting your mission to action. A strong strategy ensures that everything your church does flows toward a shared purpose. It prevents ministries from drifting or competing. It ties every role, every volunteer, and every event into a bigger story. Without a clear strategy, people forget how their contribution fits the mission. With one, even the smallest task becomes a meaningful part of God’s movement in your church.

The Vision Proper – Where Is God Leading Us?

The Vision Frame holds up and protects a picture – a Vision Proper – your church’s living portrait of God’s better future. This is the Missional Mountaintop view that calls your congregation forward with hope and anticipation. It’s not a vague dream; it’s a Spirit-led image that develops over time like a Polaroid picture, coming into focus first in the hearts of leaders, then in the hearts of your people.

This vision inspires. It moves. It rallies the body of Christ around a holy anticipation: This is who we’re becoming. This is where we’re going. This is how we’ll get there—together.
