Celebrating Decades of Faith, Community, Mission, and Open Doors
What began as Baltimore Lutheran High School in 1965 has grown into something far greater than anyone might have imagined. Today, Concordia Preparatory School in Towson, Maryland, serves 495 students in grades 6 through 12, drawing from over 60 zip codes and welcoming young people from every background, faith tradition, and walk of life.
That diversity is not incidental. It is the mission.
Only about 35 percent of Concordia Prep’s students come from a church home, which means that on any given school day, the campus is filled with young people who may never have heard the Gospel proclaimed with clarity and love. Concordia Prep meets them where they are. And while they are there, they hear about the radical love and saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Students at Concordia Prep are known and cared for. It is not uncommon to see a student-athlete dash from the field to the stage on a spring concert night, changing out of a uniform just in time to pick up an instrument, join the choir, or head into musical rehearsal. The school is a place where students are encouraged to try, to grow, and to discover who God made them to be.
The ministry does not stop at graduation. Concordia Prep has seen alumni return to serve on staff, with seven to eight currently working alongside the faculty and administration that shaped them. The school also partnered with First Lutheran Church in Towson, a congregation in transition, to bring in a campus pastor and mission developer. That partnership gave birth to NewThing, a new congregation chartered in 2022. Since then, 12 students have been baptized.
Looking ahead, a Bold Legacy campaign is underway to enhance the campus and expand enrollment to as many as 550 to 600 students, creating room for even more young people to encounter the Gospel in a community that will know them by name.
Sixty years in, Concordia Prep is not slowing down. It is just getting started.

To mark this milestone, Concordia Prep invites the broader Lutheran community to join in celebrating at a 60th Anniversary Worship Service and Celebration on Saturday, June 6 from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Concordia Prep in the Lutheran Activity Center. Come give thanks for sixty years of faithful ministry and pray for the decades still to come.
