The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is divided into 35 districts nationally. Each district is divided into regions called circuits, and Circuit Visitors represent the District President in that region.
The Southeastern District is divided into 19 circuits. Circuit 9 (northern Virginia) and Circuit 13 (eastern North Carolina) are each divided into two circuits.
- Assist the district president with the call process, vacancies, visitation and mediation
- Encourage congregations and professional church workers in their circuit
- Serve as a liaison between congregations and the district president
